Not Present, Yet Not Absent — The True Meaning of Missing Elements in Saju
When analyzing a Saju (Four Pillars of Destiny) chart, many people ask the same question: “Why is this element missing in my chart?” Some charts lack Wealth (財星), others lack Authority (官星), and in some cases, an entire Five Element may be absent. Most people arrive at a simple conclusion: “If it’s missing, it must be lacking.” However, classical Saju texts present a very different perspective. 1. Not Present Does Not Mean Non-Existent One of the key principles found in 《滴天髓》 states: 四柱雖無,運中有之,亦為有也 Even if an element is not present in the natal chart, it can still appear and function through time (Luck cycles).
